Make your own garlic bread at home with this simple recipe. All you need is a loaf of Italian bread, garlic cloves, butter, and lots of cheese.
I can’t think of many things that are more comforting than garlic bread. Years ago, whenever Mr. Savory Tooth and I were looking for a quick dinner, we would go to the local market and pick up a pound of pre-made garlic bread. After a quick bake and broil, the garlic bread would be done and we’d gobble it up and call it a dinner. We have some great memories of munching on crispy garlic bread in front of a fireplace on cold winter days while watching a TV episode or two.
I was really missing some garlic bread this week, so I figured I’d make my own. There are 3 main steps in this process. First, the garlic spread is mixed together, which should contain your favorite cheeses and spices plus garlic and butter. I used mozzarella and parmesan here, but next time I’m thinking about using asiago and maybe cheddar. Second, this mixture is spread across the sliced loaf halves, re-assembled into a loaf, and baked. Third, the loaf is opened up again and broiled until crispy. The broiling step is hardest; you have to be really vigilant because the bread can go from crispy to burnt in seconds.
This garlic bread is delicious to eat by itself, or as a side for pasta dishes like this sausage bolognese rigatoni. As you know, Mr. Savory Tooth and I are accustomed to eating an entire pound of garlic bread by ourselves, so we had no problem finishing this off in a single meal.
